Hi everyone! I’m not around from now until next week- I’m visiting my family for Christmas and will only have limited internet access. There won’t be a queue either, as the majority of my followers here are likely to be celebrating Christmas too and might not get much time on Tumblr themselves. If I get a chance to come on for a bit and there’s something special in the...

“Charles II was a voluble man who took immense pleasure in recounting anecdotes...”
– Found here The source is a site full of anecdotes, so this may or may not be true. However, it is true that Charles liked to tell everybody about his adventures- and he told some stories so often that he really could remember them in great detail even at the end of his life. For example, when he...

– Source You know, after watching Horrible Histories, the idea of Charles II taking part in a rap battle doesn’t seem that weird.

Listverse: Top 10 ~Philandering~ English Monarchs →
Guess who got the #1 spot? ;) It’s a pretty terrible list, actually. It’s not particularly well-written and it’s got mistakes in it. However, I for one am greatly amused by the idea of a thoroughly nice chap like Charlie being described as a ‘notorious womaniser’ as if he was going around being a massive bastard all the time.

Follow Friday
Just a couple this time :) fyhistoricalbitchfaces - a very new blog, run by a friend of mine. Free history with every bitchface, and the very first post was Charles II bitchfacing at a pineapple. textsfromhistory - Texts From Last Night combined with screencaps from Horrible Histories. It’s every bit as inspired and weird as it sounds.

I’ve been thinking about adding a page (or an epic blog post) to FYC2 containing media relating to Charles II. The plan so far is to have one list of factual resources and one list of fictional versions of Charles, so that we can keep proper sources separate from fun- although that’s quite a difficult task when it comes to Charlie! The end result of each list should be a set of links...

– Antonia Fraser Not interested in fashion, and yet, still fabulous. (I have to admit, I giggled at the mental image of Charles whipping his wig off to go and bugger about at the docks)

Boring text post about things and stuff.
First thing: punkslovepoints has some lovely festive Horrible Histories icons here, so now we have something both Charlietastic and Christmassy for the rest of December. Second bit of stuff: Over the weekend I read a rather large chunk of Antonia Fraser’s biography of Charles II, and there was an entire section (as in, multiple pages) which was basically just OMG CHARLES WAS SO PRETTY AND...

theduchess24: Earlier I decided to type him into tumblr, just to see if anything came up. OH MY. (I imagine a large part of it is due to the Horrible Histories sketch with Mat Baynton..) BUT CHARLES BASICALLY HAS HIS OWN FANDOM ON TUMBLR. I’m so very amused and pleased. Here I’ve been sitting in my room fangirling over Charles II alone because I didn’t think anyone else was into it…and...

– Antonia Fraser Not sure whether it says more about Charles or about society that this attitude is still so much rarer than it could be. And, in order to avoid an epic and mostly off-topic rant on what is essentially a humorous blog, I’ll just say this… …Can I have a Charlie for...
